Dulbecco's Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS) is a widely used phosphate buffered saline solution with the addition of calcium and magnesium ions. Compared to DPBS without calcium and magnesium, the addition of cations allow washing of adherent cells without detachment. These cations preserve structure and signaling of cells for adherent cell work. DPBS is also used for enzyme and immunology work requiring gentle, non-disruptive handling and washing.
