Apramycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit. It is widely used as a selection agent in E. coli, Streptomyces, and mycobacterial genetics, where the aac(3)IV resistance gene serves as a selectable marker for transformed or transduced cells. Its minimal cross-resistance with other standard aminoglycosides also makes it useful in antibiotic sensitivity testing.
